Statement of Policies

SEASL is a Not for Profit organization. Any dues or monies collected are intended for support of SEASL and not for the profit or benefit of individuals.

SEASL is not affiliated with any retailer, wholesaler, or manufacturer.  We do not, as a club, endorse or discourage any retailer, wholesaler, or manufacturer.  Any statements made by a club member is the opinion of that member and should not be considered the view or opinion of the club as a whole.  Members are always free to express their opinion at the club meetings and via the club's private email list service.

It has always been SEASL’s policy to remain neutral as an organization with respect to where and from whom members purchase products and livestock. Individual members are free to personally express their own personal opinion of a particular retailer, wholesaler, or manufacturer. Such opinions are the personal opinion of the individual and not that of SEASL, and as an organization SEASL will remain neutral on such matters.

SEASL does accept donations from businesses and will acknowledge such donations to the membership. These donations are not to be considered payment or encouragement for preferred treatment by SEASL as an organization.  Any donations of goods or services by retailers or manufacturers accepted by SEASL will be considered a donation to a Not for Profit organization.  Such donations are appreciated by SEASL and it's members.

Retailers and Manufactures are welcome and encouraged to apply to SEASL to make presentations to the membership.  SEASL will accept such presentations on a time available basis.  Content of such presentation is the responsibility and opinion of the presenter and/or their organization.  SEASL can not be responsible for any incorrect or misleading content of such presentation.

SEASL provides a "PRIVATE" email list service.  All members are free to post any relevant and appropriate message they wish to this list. These message should be related to the hobby of Saltwater Aquarium keeping. Liability and Responsibility of any post will be that of the poster and not SEASL.  Members of this list should also consider that postings to this list services are made for the exclusive consumption of members of the list and are not considered public domain.  Re-distribution or publication of such postings is not authorized.  If an organization or individual wishes to rebut or respond to a posting  to this PRIVATE list, SEASL will provide a vehicle to allow this.  Members are responsible for keep postings "G" rated.

SEASL encourages members to support local retailers but will neither encourage or discourage alternative purchasing options.  Each member is free to determine the level of risk they are willing to take.  Retailers assume many of the risk and costs associated with getting livestock and dry goods to their establishment; anyone who understands business will also understand that this cost is passed on to customers.  If individual members or groups of members wish to assume some of the risk to reduce their cost, SEASL will neither encourage or discourage such member activity.  SEASL as a club strives to remain politically neutral on this activity.

SEASL is an organization open to the public without restrictions.  As such, owners and employees of retail, wholesale, and manufacturers of product and or livestock related to the saltwater aquarium business are allowed and encouraged to join.  We value their input and expertise.

On some occasions we are invited or have requested to tour retail, wholesale, and manufacture’s places of business.
As guests, members should be punctual and gracious in recognition of the hospitality being extended.  We encourage members to fully enjoy these visits by asking questions and encouraging discussions, while being ever mindful that legitimate diversity in techniques, approaches, and perspectives exist within our hobby.
On these outings if a member is a direct competitor, or an employee of a competitor, or if they could have some perceived or real unfair advantage by joining such a tour it is advised and requested by the SEASL Executive Committee that such individuals please not attend the outing or event. It is further requested that when we as an organization are on such a tour or event that no business unrelated to the business offering the tour or event be transacted. This would include, but is not limited to, passing out business cards or other forms of advertising, or making announcements for other sale or group purchasing that may compete with the business that is hosting the event.  The business hosting the tour or event is also free to request that specific individuals not participate; this is their right as long as it is within legal guidelines and or specific laws.
